How to make a Feltie!

Making felties has always been on my to-do list, but kept putting it on the back shelf, and never came round to making them, but hey we are here.

Let start by What is a Feltie?

A feltie is (mostly small), flat item usually made using comprised felt; cut in a unique shape of the design. The top layer may have some decorative stitching on it or layers of fabric applique on top. Feltie can comprised of one or more layers of felt/fabric for stability.

Now that we know what feltie is and I’ve finally decided to get crafty 😁,  let start by listing materials used for this project.

Materials:

1. Felt.

2. Design (2.25″ tall).

3. Tearaway stabiliser.

4. Embroidery machine.

5. Scissors.

6. Embroidery thread (your choice of colour).

7. Scotch tape.

Optional:

8. Large paper clip.

9. Glue Gun

Steps:

1. Start by hooping the tearaway stabiliser to the hoop, and place hoop in your machine.

2. Stitch the placement stitch directly onto the stabiliser.

3. Place the felt material on top of the placement stitches and embroider the next step of the design (The number of steps will vary greatly base on the design).

5. Before the last stitch, stop and take the hoop out of the machine; place another layer of felt on the backside of the tearaway stabiliser so the back side of the decorative stitching is not shown, so the feltie has a nice clean backside.

**Use a scothch tape to secure the felt along the edges to keep the felt from falling off**

6. Place the hoop back into the machine and stitch the final outline, (with some design this is the last step).

Finishing touches:

7. When you are done with all the stitching, remove the hoop from the machine; take the felt out of the hoop, and gently tear away the felt from the tearaway stabiliser.

8. Trim around the outside edge of design.

9. Since this was intended to be a bookmark, i attached paper clips to the felties using a glue gun.

This stitches out perfectly and sooo cute! 😍

There are lot of small fun feltie designs available, which can be stitched out and used for your different project either by itself or attached to different items i.e hair bows, key chain etc. It is so easy to get excited and go crazy making these cuties and trust me, i did!!

On to the next fun DIY project!! 💃
